SADC election observer mission chief Never Sekwila Mumba, from Zambia encouraged peace and assured Zimbabweans that they will not decide for the nation who to vote for.

Mumba was addressing  journalists upon arrival at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe Airport, on Wednesday ahead of general elections to be held next week.

The Zambian said they are going to give Zimbabwe an opportunity to vote for a leader of their choice.

“So our determination is to support every effort that is going to give us a free and fair election.

“We consider a free and fair election as a tool for peace and stability of any country,” he said.

Mumba added:  “So if we do not have a fair election, we are going to be subjected to insecurity for quite a while.

“So my team and I are dedicating ourselves to ensure that we are part of the process to give Zimbabweans an opportunity to make a choice of their own.

“They make a choice, we are just the eyes and we encourage peace,”

Commonwealth election observers led by Ms Amina Mohammed also arrived in the country and said they would engage the media at a later stage.

Meanwhile former President  of Mozambique Joaquim Chissano is also expected to arrive in the country later on.
