MAIN opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa has rejected Zimbabwe’s general election results based on disputed figures.

Chamisa lost the election to President Elect Emmerson Mnangagwa who garnered 52.6% of the vote, while he got 44%.

Chamisa says his party’s V11s were not aligning with what the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) announced.

“It is clear that we are rejecting the election as a sham. The results and the process itself, we disregard it in line with what SADC has said.

“We reject this sham result, flawed process based on the disputed figures. We have V11s from across the nation and these will be the basis.

“We have won this election, we are in the lead and we are even surprised why Mnangagwa was declared the winner because he is not,” Chamisa said.

Chamisa also vowed his party will not sit down and wait for the next election to take action.

“There is going to be change in Zimbabwe, whether Zanu PF want it or not. It is not going to be easy but there shall be change.

“We will not wait for five years, there has to be change now and we are going to lead in making sure that change comes to Zimbabwe.

“Whatever it takes, we must provide leadership. We are forming the next government,” Chamisa said.

In a statement, CCC spokesperson Promise Mkwananzi said:

“On Wednesday 23 August 2023, under the administration of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), our nation bore witness to an election marred by vote suppression and egregious abuse.

“The SADC report transparently highlighted these transgressions for the global community.

“For the sake of that elder woman who walked 2km and waited in line for two whole days to cast her vote, we will not roll over and accept fictitious lies,” Mwakanzi said.
