Political rivals, ruling party, ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa and his nemesis MDC’s Nelson Chamisa are set to face each other CEO Africa Round Table.
The political opponents were both invited to the 7th edition of the annual round table which will be held in Victoria Falls.
Since the 2018 presidential elections, Mnangagwa and Chamisa have not met.
Efforts by several organisations for a dialogue between the two country’s main political players have hit a brickwall.
Mnangagwa has in the past extended an invitation to Chamisa to join his Political Actor’s Dialogue (POLAD) which he snubbed and demanded a one on one engagement.
“We are expecting the major political players who include Dr Nkosana Moyo, J M Busha, Zanu-PF and the MDC president, in addition to civil society and private sector leaders to discuss deeply the socio-political and economic tribulations of Zimbabwe in a pluralistic manner in pursuit of holistic national solutions” the invitation reads.
Local political analysts who spoke to this publication explained that dialogue between the two is the way to go.
Frank Chauke said “dialogue is the only way to abate this economic melee that is ravaging our country.”
Malcolm Zipi added, “our problems economically are as a result of the political problems thus the move by the CEOs to have the architectures of our problems sit is a commendable move. I just hope and pray they heed the call and attend.”
