Local artists across all genres have praised President Emmerson Mnangangwa’s decision to okay the resumption of live shows.

This comes after Mnangagwa have artists the greenlight to host live shows but with adherance to Covid-19 protocols and not more than fifty people in the venue.

Writing on his twitter account, Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation deputy minister, Tinomudaishe Machakaire said, “Please join me in extending gratitude to H.E CDE E.D Mnangagwa who has given artists a greenlight to resume live shows on condition they do not exceed the stipulated 50 people. Let us not abuse this privilege and adhere to the regulations outlined by WHO & our COVID-19 taskforce.”

Speaking to Bustop TV, popular Bulawayo songbird and dancer, Sandra Ndebele hailed government for finally allowing artists to hold live shows.

“This is a very good move by both the government and president Mnangagwa. Im so excited and happy because this might be the beginning of bigger things in our art industry, what we only need to do now is prepare our packages for perfomances,” she said.

Zimdancehall artist and Tangai Bhawa hitmaker, Fidel Country Boy also expressed his delight towards the call.

“This is very important to us as artists. I’m very happy that the president has given us greenlight to do our liveshows. It shows that our grievences have been heard, particularly my song Tangai Bhawa might have been a wake up call,” he said.

The music industry has been hit-hard by the impacts of Covid-19 with no artists allowed to host shows since the beginning of the lockdown in March 2020.

A photo of Mnangagwa strumming a guitar alongside musician, Andy Muridzo captured at the State House has since gone viral on various social media platforms.
