The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged citizens to take extra care of persons with disabilities and ensure they get any required psychotropic medication in time.

This comes at a time when the country has recorded a number of murder cases involving mentally ill persons.

In a statement released Tuesday, the ZRP expressed their concern over homicide cases as a result of mentally challenged people who are not on medication.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with cases of murder occuring around the country. Some of these cases are being committed by mentally challenged people who are not on medication.

“ZRP urges members of the public to ensure that mentally challenged persons are assisted in getting medical attention regularly.

“Police warns perpetrators of murder cases that the long arm of law will catch up with them.”

According to the police on 2nd of May a suspected mentally challenged Gutu man heavily assaulted minors aged 2 and 5 before fleeing the crime scene.

Again on the 7th of  May a 40-year old male suspected to be mentally challenged attacked his father to death with a wooden hoe handle.
