Chinhoyi Residents Association has Friday called on the Municipality to address poor servicing in the city.

As the country commemorates the National Clean up Campaign today, the residents association demanded that council look at the other services they are supposed to render to the citizens other than water reticulation, so as to ensure that the public are in a safe environment.

The residents association Chairperson Mr. Clifford Hlupheko said the lockdown has affected the clean up campaigns in the city.

“The lockdown has affected clean up campaigns, we haven’t had much activities since its inception, but before the lockdowns we participated and also invited communities to take part so that we all live in a clean environment. Today we also urge the citizens to create a healthy environment around them  and also mask up, sanitize and maintain social distance because it is our responsibility as one to win over this pandemic,” he said.

He went on to say that the existence of litter and dumpsites is worrying because it is posing health hazards and creating room for air and water borne diseases like cholera, typhoid and creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

“In some locations such as Hunyani and Mupata, people have resorted to creating dumpsites causing health hazards to the community, because the council is not doing its job well. In some areas they collect garbage and in some they do not.

“With the rains we are having now there is the likelihood of having more malaria cases in these areas because they have a bigger breeding ground and also cholera and typhoid are a cause of worry.”

He added that although the water situation had improved council still had to make sure that all locations had access to clean and safe water.

Roads in the city are also now in bad shape due to excessive rains.

Various government departments, partners and health facilities today cleaned up the town so as to commemorate the National Clean Up day.
