Zimbabwe Presidential hopeful Saviour Kasukuwere has called upon election observers to monitor and document incidents of violence and intimidation during electoral processes.

As political temperatures rise ahead of the August 23 elections, reports of political violence, voter suppression and intimidation are surfacing.

Recently, a Citizens Coalition for Change  (CCC) activist was stoned to death by a suspected Zanu PF member near Tanaka grounds in Glen View, Harare, while trying to flee from a suspected Zanu PF violent mob which had intentions to thwart a rally by the opposition.

There are also other multiple reports indicating a concerning increase in incidents of political violence throughout the the country.

In response to these incidents, Kasukuwere denounced the occurrences of these political violence, emphasizing the importance of peaceful and inclusive political processes.

“In the face of deeply troubling incidents of violence against innocent individuals engaged in the democratic process, we must take a firm stance and echo our unreserved condemnation. These attacks are not just an affront to the victims but a blatant attack on the very core of our democratic principles.

“We unequivocally condemn these attacks. Our citizens are the lifeblood of this nation, and every individual deserves respect, dignity, and the right to participate in the democratic process without fear. No ambition, no political maneuvering, and no narrative can justify the harming of our own.

“To the election observers, both from our homeland and the international community, your role is now more critical than ever. We urge you to not only monitor the voting process but to keep a vigilant eye on these escalating incidents of violence,” Kasukuwere said in a statement.

In a display of empathy, Kasukuwere expressed sympathy towards the victims of political violence.

“To the brave individuals affected by these despicable acts, know that your courage has not gone unnoticed. Your need for medical treatment and support will not be overshadowed by political rhetoric. We stand by you and will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.

“No Zimbabwean should have to pay the price for exercising their democratic rights. Intimidation, harassment, and violence have no place in a nation that seeks to govern itself by the principles of freedom, fairness, and equality,” he said.

Kasukuwere added that: “To the perpetrators, hear this: the winds of change are blowing, and they’re relentless. Every act of violence only strengthens our resolve. Every innocent life harmed is a beacon, rallying more to our cause. We will not be silenced. We will not be deterred.”

Meanwhile, the constitutional court on Tuesday last week refused Kasukuwere’s appeal challenging his ousting from the presidential race in Zimbabwe’s general elections.

Kasukuwere had exhausted most legal avenues to nullify a suit by a Zanu-PF activist Lovedale Mangwana.
