GWERU – A Gweru car dealer is on the run after gunning down two people in a bloody rampage including a friend he accused of having an affair with his socialite wife, police reported.

Peter Dube, 35, allegedly shot his second wife or girlfriend Nyasha Nharingo, 31, whom he was said to have paid lobola for two weeks ago, and his friend Shelton Chinhango, a popular Kwekwe-based gold trader on Thursday night.

Reports said Dube, owner of Mixed Blend Car Sale in Gweru, confronted Chinhango, while seated in his car outside Nyasha’s apartment and fatally shot him in the head, accusing him of sleeping with his wife after he allegedly drove her and her sister Nyaradzo to Masvingo to collect Nyaradzo’s passport.

The suspect then proceeded to the residence where he shot his wife in the neck before turning the gun on Nyasha’s friend Gamuchirai Mudungwe, killing her instantly, it was reported. He also shot Nyaradzo, 34, before fleeing.

The horror episode was said to have played out in the full view of the suspect’s first wife and brother, who then rushed to the police to make a report.

Nyasha and her sister are battling for life in hospital while Chinhango and Mudugwe died on the spot.

Ishmael Nharingwa, the father of Nyasha and Nyaradzo, said while Dube paid lobola for his daughter a fortnight ago, their relationship was experiencing problems.

“I then rushed to the hospital only to find my two daughters battling for life. The two have been having problems for quite some time but I never imagined it could come to this,” he told the Chronicle newspaper.

Police spokesman Paul Nyathi said in a statement the double homicide took place at Room Number 11, Bensam Flat, which sits along Main Street.

He said Dube “shot dead two people and seriously injured two others in a domestic dispute linked to infidelity allegations,” adding, “Police are currently looking for the suspect. No to murder cases.”

Journalist Blessed Mhlanga paid tribute to his friend Chinhango, describing him as a “friendly guy” and “always a happy guy.”

“Shellers is how we used to know him, friendly guy and we had agreed to get a bottle of whiskey when next he came to Harare. He was my friend and always a happy guy. Sad to hear he was gunned down in Gweru. Rest in Peace, my brother. You will be missed,” Mhlanga tweeted.
