BOARDING school students will not be returning home for Easter holidays, government has said.

Speaking at a post cabinet briefing in Harare, Tuesday, Information minister, Monica Mutsvangwa said students must remain at their schools.

This move is meant to prevent a possible surge in Covid-19 confirmed cases during the holidays.

“Boarding school students should not travel to their homes for the Easter holidays as part of the strategy to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“The learners should stay at their respective schools, given the congestion anticipated on public transport,” she said.

The Easter holiday break will commence on Friday 2 April (Good Friday) and end Monday the 5th (Easter Monday).

Learners resumed face to face learning this month in a phased approach.

The three examination classes opened on the 15th while the rest of the classes opened on the 22nd and close on the 4th of June.

The terms have short holiday breaks to allow students to catch up with their studies which were disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
