Churches praise ED

The President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa, who was declared the winner of the presidential election held on August 23-24, has received congratulatory messages and praises from the Council for Churches in Africa (CCA).

CCA represented by its founding father Archbishop Dr. Rocky Moyo has described Mnangagwa as the supreme leader of Zimbabwe.

Below, is the congratulatory message from Archbishop Moyo.

“Council for Churches in Africa’s (CCA) founding leader, Arch-bishop Dr. Rocky Moyo, Bishops Council Executive, boards of governors (Apostolic, Zion and Pentecostal), partners, stakeholders, affiliates and entire congregants; wish to extend their profound congratulations and express gratitude for the re-election of Cde Emmerson D. Mnangagwa as the supreme leader of our motherland, Zimbabwe.

The President-elect, we join the nation in congratulating your candidature as you assume another term of office. The indigenous churches and other faith-based institutions have spoken through the ballot. We respect and value the church’s voice and confidence in your leadership skills and qualities, which have ultimately given you another constitutional extension to lead this nation.

As indigenous churches, we wish you all the best in your five-year term that the masses have assigned you. The churches are also looking forward to realise the other remaining projects which you have initiated including those that transform generations to come. We have noted great strides which you have made so far and really appreciate your commitment in complimenting church’s roles unity, peace and development of their respective communities.l,” read the message.

The Council of Churches in Africa is a non-profit faith-based ecumenical umbrella body for indigenous churches in Africa with the aim to promote love, peace and justice amongst churches through genuine dialogue and engagement in an effort to avoid church splits in the region.

According to the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Priscilla Chigumba, Emmerson Mnangagwa secured 2,350,711 votes, accounting for 52.6% of the total 4,468,730 votes cast in the election.

In contrast, the leader of the main opposition CitizensCoalitionforChange (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa, obtained 1,967,343 votes, representing 44% of the overall vote.
