Zim Covid-19 death toll rises to 12

Zimbabwe recorded three more Covid-19 deaths yesterday, Thursday bringing the country’s death toll to 12.

All the deaths were reported at central hospitals in Harare.

To date Zimbabwe has 926 confirmed cases of corona virus with 306 recoveries, 608 active cases and 12 deaths.

“Today we regret to report three deaths reported from Sally Mugabe Hospital (2) and Parirenyatwa Hospital (1), these were detected as part of routine testing of all deaths that occur on patients in hospitals. On Wednesday, Bulawayo recorded 51 new cases of which 21 were health care workers who have been in contact with confirmed cases admitted at the hospital and have been isolated,” said the Health Ministry.

Today 3555 RDT screening tests and 580 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 86 212 (50 886 and 35 346 PCR)

The Ministry continues to advise people to abide by the World Health Regulations and protect themselves against Covid -19.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and, Publicity and Broadcasting services, Monica Mutsvangwa urged people to adhere to lockdown regulations.

“It is in view of this heightened increment in infection cases that urge the public to continue to adhere to the lockdown regulations and practice preventatives and protective behavior. Government is urging each and one of us against complacency,” Mutsvangwa said.

She said that the government is trying by all means to mitigate the virus.

“Indeed in the face of Covid -19, government continues to do its best to mitigate the impact of this pandemic. We continue to review and update our Covid -19 Response and Action plan on the prevailing conditions in the country and new information is coming from WHO,” she said.
