Masvingo Blood Bank Improves

Masvingo – The Masvingo National Blood Services Zimbabwe blood banks stocks are starting to improve as more blood donors are coming forward an official confirmed.

The Masvingo NBSZ public relations officer Micheal Chakoma confirmed the development.

The blood stock in the province were now critically low, the NBSZ then had to call for blood donors of all blood types to make donations.

Covid -19 has hugely affected blood donations and a few blood donors were coming to make donations.

Chakoma indicated that the current status of the blood banks is very pleasing and more people are donating.

“Our blood banks status is very pleasing at the moment, it has gradually improved as compared to other weeks before, and more people are coming forward to donate. We were facing a critical shortage and we called on for different donors to come forward and our call was taken seriously. We are now out of danger, the state we were in was now very worrisome and there was nothing we could do but rely on our donors to come forward.

“The public did respond very well and it is very encouraging, we are still calling for more donors to come forward and donate, we are not limiting. We want to continue carrying out awareness campaigns to educate people on blood donating, a lot of people are still skeptical about blood donations and there is need to educate them. We are using the media to spread the word as well,” he said.

Chakoma added that they are also engaging schools to speed up the blood donation campaign in the province.

The campaign is also being carried out through community based programs in both the rural and urban areas and is yielding positive results.
