MDC Alliance councillor Advocate Jacob Mafume was elected new Harare Mayor after garnering 19 votes against MDC T preferred candidate Councilor Luckson Mukunguma’s who polled 14 votes
Mafume a lawyer by profession and is also MDC Alliance deputy local government secretary garnered 19 votes, beating competitor Councillor Luckson Mukunguma who got 14 votes in a tightly contested vote conducted this afternoon at Harare Town House.
The Harare Mayoral post fell vacant last week after the then-mayor Herbert Gomba was recalled by the MDC-T led by Dr Thokozani Khupe .
The ousted Herbert Gomba, a former councillor for Glen Norah was recalled together with 5 other Councillors on allegations by the MDC-T that they have seized to be members of the MDC T a move roundly condemned by civil societies.
In his acceptance speech , his worship councilor Jacob Mafume promised to work hard in improving service delivery for the city of Harare .
