Controversial preacher Walter Magaya has been exposed by a former loyalist, Enishia Mushusha, who claims the self-styled prophet thrives on media attention and often creates controversy to remain in the spotlight.
Mushusha, who previously worked in the Internal Relations (IR) Department at Magaya’s organisation, has opened up about his alleged publicity stunts and deceptive tactics.
“It seemed that if the media wasn’t talking about him, he felt the need to create controversy. One day, he used our office as the source of that controversy. I remember driving to work one morning and seeing our office trending on newspaper billboards, even making the front page. He had pulled a stunt, falsely claiming that our office was trying to delete him. For him, being in the news, even through negative attention, was a win. That’s the day I started to question all his moves,” Mushusha revealed.
Fake Qualifications Exposed
Mushusha’s claims come amid fresh allegations that Magaya has been parading fraudulent academic qualifications, including an honorary doctorate from the University of South Africa (UNISA). Images of Magaya receiving the supposed honorary degree flooded social media, but UNISA has publicly dismissed the claims, stating that they never conferred such an honor upon him.
Investigative journalist Maynard Manyowa inquired about the matter and confirmed that UNISA had no record of awarding Magaya an honorary doctorate, sparking widespread outrage among Zimbabweans who feel deceived.
The scandal follows another controversy involving a purportedly falsified O-Level certificate, raising further doubts about Magaya’s credibility.
Magaya’s PR Machine Under Scrutiny
Mushusha also suggested that Magaya’s public relations team, once highly effective, played a major role in crafting his image.
“We were the best public relations specialists ever. I’m sure he misses the original IR team,” she remarked, implying that his current advisors have failed to protect his reputation.
As allegations of fraudulent qualifications and media manipulation pile up, many are questioning whether Magaya’s empire can withstand the growing scrutiny. Despite the controversy, Magaya has not publicly responded to the accusations.
