Chitungwiza Residents Trust (CHITREST) Director, Alice Kuvheya was arrested this afternoon.
Kuvheya last week successfully blocked the ongoing demolitions in Chitungwiza through a Court Order with the help of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).
Her arrest comes after threats by Harare Provincial Development Coordinator, Tafadzwa Muguti’s to crack down on residents associations resisting demolitions.
She had reportedly gone into hiding after receiving death threats from anonymous callers.
She is currently detained at St Mary’s Police Station and is expected to be moved to Harare Law and Order.
