Musician Seh Calaz has stirred up controversy by alleging that the Swan Company, which recently launched its products in Mbare, is owned by Zanu-PF.

In a bold statement, Seh Calaz suggested that fellow artist Winky D, who performed at the Swan launch, is indirectly benefiting from Zanu-PF through his association with the event.

Seh Calaz pointed out what he sees as an inconsistency in Winky D’s message. He referenced Winky D’s song “Siya”, where the artist urges people not to rely on political or economic “bosses” for survival.

According to Seh Calaz, these are the very same “bosses” paying Winky D to perform at events such as the Swan launch.

The Swan Company, which recently held its product launch in Mbare, has been linked to Zanu-PF by Seh Calaz.

While there is no official confirmation of the company’s political affiliations, Calaz argued that participating in such events implies a connection with the ruling party.

This debate adds a new layer to the long-standing narrative around artists and their involvement in politics.

Winky D has often been seen as a voice of the people, using his music to critique corruption, inequality, and the challenges faced by ordinary Zimbabweans.

However, Seh Calaz’s claims question the alignment between Winky D’s public stance and his professional engagements.

Seh Calaz also admitted to having benefitted from Zanu-PF connections in the past. He cited a car gifted to him by businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo, who is a well-known supporter of Zanu-PF.

Calaz used this example to argue that many in the entertainment industry, regardless of their political or social messaging, often rely on funding and opportunities connected to influential figures or institutions, including those linked to Zanu-PF.
