Zim records 17 new cases

Zimbabwe has recorded a surge in Covid-19 confirmed cases recording 17 new cases today.

This has brought the total of Covid-19 to 149 from the 132 recorded yesterday, Wednesday.

Manicaland province had the highest number of new cases, 9 while Harare had 5 cases, Midlands 2 and Mashonaland West had one case.

Three more recoveries were recorded today with 2 from Harare and 1 from Mashonaland East.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care in its daily update said all new cases were returnees.

“Seventeen 17 cases tested positive for Covid -19 today. These are all returnees from Mozambique 9, South Africa 7 and United Kingdom 1 who are in quarantine centres. Today 2005 RDT screening tests and 490 PCT diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 40 847 (24 407 and 16 440PCR).”

To date the total number of confirmed cases is 149, recovered 28, active cases 117 and 4 deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20 March 2020.

Globally 5 596 550 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed and 353 373 deaths according to the World Health Organisation.

WHO said that they are facing an unprecedented global demand for essential Covid -19 medical supplies and is working with partners to help secure supplies to assist the most vulnerable countries.
