Police on Saturday night violently disrupted Zimdancehall superstar Winky D’s live show at the Blueroof Damview in Chitungwiza.
Winky D had attempted performing his latest controversial song Ibotso when police stormed the stage, violently grabbing the mic and pushing him away.
This was Winky D’s first show after the release of his latest album eureka Eureka.
Commenting on the matter, outspoken Norton legislator Temba Mliswa said this was shameful.
“Police blocking a Winky D’ show in Chitungwiza is not just disturbing but shameful.
“Are the authorities now trying to derail his career by this cowardice?
“An artist whom we should be celebrating we are busy fighting!
Mliswa added: “This kind of fascist fear for anything contrary to the state’s position is very unhealthy, dangerous and unprogressive.
“It stunts growth everywhere since you want to create a docile population of gullible yes-men.
“In our troubled economy where youths are getting destroyed by drugs young people like Winky D should be celebrated and used as models of how ghetto youths can make it cleanly instead of sending ZRP officers to fight him.
“Do we even know what we want as a country??”

The multi award-winning musician’s eureka album has been heavily politicised as most of its songs rebuke corruption by government officials, social and political injustice and economic crisis at hand.
A Zanu PF lobby group in January called for the ban of Winky D’s music in Zimbabwe saying he promotes hate speech and violence.
