Chamisa defends Winky d

by Bustop TV News

Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president Nelson Chamisa has told authorities to stop violence against Zimdancehall superstar Winky D and address the social ills and corruption he sings about.

The Ninja president as Winky D is affectionately known was attacked on Saturday night and had his live performance prematurely  ended by police at the Damview in Chitungwiza.

He was violently dragged off the stage by the police whilst performing his politically charged song-iBotso. This incited violence from the crowd, prompting one fan to hit Winky D with a bottle.

Posting on his Twitter, Chamisa said instead of attacking Winky D the government should address the issues he talks about in his music.

“Stop stifling artistic freedom and creativity. Winky Gaffa to the Gaffest is just a musical icon.

“Do not shoot the messenger, troubleshoot and deal with the message.

“Fix the citizens’ daily problems and struggles.

“Is this the land we cried for, we died for? Musadaro!” Chamisa said.

This was Winky D’s first show after the release of his latest album Eureka Eureka which has been heavily politicised for carrying songs that denounce social and political injustice, corruption and economic meltdown.

Zanu PF is allegedly responsible for his attack and show ban as its members in January demanded that Winky D’s music must be banned in Zimbabwe claiming his lyrics promote hate speech and violence among the youths.
