The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has recorded one Covid-19 confirmed case after a player tested positive.
PSL confirmed the positive case in a statement issued Monday.
“The Premier Soccer League can confirm that following the latest round of Covid-19 testing for Match Day Two conducted, one player tested positive for Covid-19. The player was not part of match day activities.
“The PSL remains in contact with the relevant health authorities in implementation of the Covid-19 protocols to enable our fixtures to be played as scheduled.”
According to the PSL the player whose identity was not disclosed did not participate in the Chibuku Super Cup matchday 2 last week and has gone into self-isolation.
The domestic football governing body also urged all clubs to strictly and vigilantly follow all Covid-19 guidelines put in place by government and World Health Organisation (WHO).
“We urge the clubs and all our stakeholders to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 protocols to prevent the spread of the virus,” reads the PSL statement.
Government recently placed Kwekwe under a two week strict lockdown after detecting the coronavirus B.1.617 variant predominantly found in India in the city.
