A 55-year-old self-proclaimed prophet from Chief Nyajina’s area in Uzumba appeared in Murewa Magistrates’ Court facing rape charges.
The State says that in May 2023, the prophet told a female church member that she would face fertility problems and needed to come to his house for prayers.
Two weeks later, the woman visited his home and stayed there for three days. On the third night, he woke her up at midnight for a “prayer session.” He claimed there was a strange object in her womb that could only be removed by having s*xual intercourse with him.

He threatened to kill her if she refused, and then he raped her.
The incident was revealed on February 1, 2025, when the prophet told the woman’s husband that she needed to return to his house to complete the prayers. The woman then told her husband about the rape, and they reported the matter to the police.
The prophet was arrested, placed on remand, and is set to appear in court again on February 17, 2025.
