An ex-soldier has accused his uncle of having an extramarital affair and is now suing him for $3,000 USD. According to reports, Mike Madzivanyika has been going after his uncle Kenneth Zhou, even making an unannounced midnight visit to his house to demand payment.
The Harare Civil Court hosted a dramatic hearing where Zhou sought legal protection due to the escalating animosity between the two parties.
The judge issued a protective order against Zhou’s nephew on Monday.
The court heard Zhou say, “Mike often visits my house late at night, demanding US$3,000 because of my involvement with his wife.” This was taken from his testimony in court.
If we do not pay, he has threatened to burn down my house, which would put my family inside. Even more outrageously, he attacked me one night; I had to pay him fifteen dollars to desist.
“If I don’t pay, he keeps threatening to have an affair with my wife,” Zhou continued. He has threatened to set fire to the house, a thought that fills me with nausea. Even if I’m guilty of having an affair with his wife, I believe he should forgive me because it happened so long ago.

Meanwhile, Madzivanyika remained silent in response to the allegations. He explained to the judge that he started getting angry the moment he found out about the affair.
“I discovered my uncle was calling my wife late at night on July 7th, last year. I felt uneasy and decided to look into her phone.
To my surprise, I found out that they were actually dating and had even had sexual encounters. “That very night, I confronted him, but he was too angry to engage in conversation,” Mike said.
“Since then, I’ve been going to his house regularly to demand that he compensate me for the harm he has caused to my marriage and my life,” he added more.
Having your own uncle betray you in this way is hard to swallow. Until he pays the US$3,000 or faces the penalties, I will not let him live in peace; he shattered my marriage.
“Am I supposed to just let my uncle and my wife continue their affair?” After the magistrate issued the protective order, Mike sharply questioned himself. The judge suggested he talk to a therapist about his marital problems and get help for them.
