Harare City Council is set to purchase fifteen new trucks as part of its efforts to improve refuse collection services in the capital.

The development was confirmed by the city council on its official twitter page.

The local governing authority added that the existing fleet of garbage trucks will soon be repaired.

“We apologize to residents for delays in collecting garbage. We are currently low on refuse trucks because of constant breakdowns.

“We are procuring 15 new trucks. Accelerated efforts underway to repair existing fleet with support from stakeholders. To hire in the interim.”

Speaking to Bustop TV City of Harare spokesperson, Michael Chideme said a tender for the trucks procurement has been flighted.

“The tender has been flighted. We are now waiting for responses,” he said.

However, citizens are disgruntled by council’s poor service delivery.

“But you have enough manpower to evict vendors. You are a bunch of losers.

“Our brother @NgarivhumeJacob is doing much-needed intervention and splendid job in cleaning our dirty streets whilst the local authorities are simply abdicating their responsibility wasting resources chasing vendors selling mere tomatoes,” wrote @TendaiZinyama on Twitter.

One @mthazd wrote, “Sad truth, the Bulawayo City Council is doing the same, today they chased vendors till sunset yet there are mountains of uncollected rubbish around Renkini bus Terminus.”
