Govt to establish vaccination program in tertiary institutions

Government will soon be introducing the national Covid-19 vaccination program in tertiary institutions nationwide,  Deputy Minister of Health, Dr John Mangwiro has said.

 Mangwiro was speaking at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International airport, Thursday where government took delivery of a consignment of  2 million Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine doses.

“Today we have received 2 million doses. Last week we received 500 000 vaccines and I am happy with how fast they have been consumed.

“So we are the vaccination program will carry on until we vaccinate the targeted number, we have noted that all varsities and colleges need to get the vaccines without any delay,” he said.

Apart from colleges and universities, the vaccination program will also be introduced in Prisons, Grain Marketing Board, Cotton and Tobacco companies in the country.

Government recently started a ten day vaccination program targeting to inoculate 15 000 informal traders at market places.

Finance Minister, Mthuli Ncube who was also present at the event said Zimbabwe will receive two more consignments of Covid-19 vaccines this month.

“More vaccines are expected in the country, next week Thursday we will be here (R.G Mugabe international airport) again to receive another consignment of  1,5 million vaccines.

“Then end of July we are expecting another delivery of 2 million doses,” he said.

Ncube added that government set aside US$100 million for the procurement of Covid-19 vaccines and US$ 40 million has been used.
