Government on Tuesday approved the reopening of restaurant sit ins at 50% capacity with strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines.

This was revealed by Information Minister, Monica Mutsvangwa at a post cabinet briefing in Harare.

Restaurants are expected to follow Covid-19 regulations. Failure to do so will result in closure.

When lockdown restrictions were relaxed earlier this month other businesses were granted the greenlight to operate but restaurants had been snubbed.

“Restaurants are now allowed to open for sit-ins at 50% sitting capacity, under strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines.

“Those found breaking the restrictions will be closed immediately,” she said.

Mutsvangwa added that Phase two of the national vaccination program will be commencing immediately.

The second phase comprises of teachers, tobacco merchants and hospitality industry workers.

This follows the delivery of a further 200 000 doses of vaccination bought by government at Robert Mugabe international airport yesterday.

As at 16 March 2021 a total of 39 550 front line workers belonging to Phase one had received their vaccination shots.

Government is aiming at inoculating 60% of the country’s total population which translates to about  10 million citizens in order to reach herd immunity against Covid-19.

To date Zimbabwe has recorded 36 535 confirmed cases; including 34 124 recoveries and 1 507 deaths.
