FORMER deputy information minister Energy Mutodi has allegedly fired live bullets at a gathering of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members in Baradzamwa township, Bikita.
The CCC members were waiting for their leader Nelson Chamisa who was set to address them.
Mutodi is reported to have arrived at CCC’s rally venue with a group of Zanu PF supporters in two trucks and started throwing stones at the opposition members before he fired two gunshots at the crowd.
Mutodi is running for the Bikita South national assembly seat on a Zanu PF ticket in the August 23 general elections.
Witnesses claim that Mutodi was in the company of Kumbirai Ziki, a well known member of a Zanu PF affiliate Forever Associates of Zimbabwe (FAZ).
The CCC party spokesperson Fadzai Mahere has demanded that police arrest Mutodi for public violence.
“This is a confirmed act of public violence. Where is police? Why has Energy Mutodi not been arrested? Why is Zanu PF allowed to unleash such wanton violence on CCC supporters who are peacefully and lawfully gathering?
“Zanu PF is feeling the heat!,” Mahere wrote on her official social media accounts.
