MDC Alliance spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere has said dismissed the yesterday’s ruling saying it is not the courts that form political parties in Zimbabwe.

This follows the High court ruling that MDC Alliance was not a political party but simply an alliance that came under a common name.

“Political parties aren’t created in the courtroom. Political parties are voluntary associations. We don’t become a political party because the court said so; we become a political party because we are,” she said.

Yesterday, Justice Chitapi ruled that the MDC Alliance was not a juristic person that has the capacity to sue or be sued.

“That’s why we contested in 2018, that’s why we fought the presidential election petition in 2018,” Mahere added.

She also went on to say that her party will not focus on individuals’ political ambitions, but will instead, focus on fighting for the well-being of Zimbabweans.

“The outcome of the court application is, it (the court interdict) was dismissed. We are going to continue focusing on fighting for Zimbabweans and championing the issues that Zimbabweans face.”

Meanwhile , reinstated MDC T secretary general, Douglas Mwonzora said he hopes his political menesis have learnt that approaching the court without proper documentation was a bad idea.

Mwonzora also assured MDC Alliance MPs that they should not be afraid of being recalled unless they have committed offences against the party.

“It is not our intention to victimise anyone, it’s not our intention to recall people just like. We will be measured in our response. We will not be retributive. We are not a vindictive leadership, we do not exist to victimise MPs.”
