The Citizens Coalition for Change newly elected Members of Parliament, who triumphed in the March 26 by-election were denied access into the Parliament building on Wednesday citing that their dressing was inappropriate.
CCC legislators were wearing yellow neck ties despite a ban by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda.
CCC deputy spokesperson Ostallos Siziba took to Twitter to confirm the development.
“INSIDE ZIMBABWE’S PARLIAMENT: Our MPs have been blocked from accessing Parliament because of what the Speaker calls “banning of yellow ties.”
He defined the act as illegal.
“We unequivocally reject this illegal and unconstitutional act. Nothing will stop our MPs from holding the Executive to account,” he said.
The MPs led by Harare East legislator Tendai Biti however later bulldozed their way in.
CCC MPs were sworn in the National Assembly yesterday after their victory.
