Prominent Cleric Calls for Safe Return of Exiled G40 Leaders

by Bustop TV News

Prominent cleric Emmanuel Makandiwa has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to facilitate the safe return of former Zanu PF faction members from exile, emphasizing that they no longer pose any threat.

The individuals in question, linked to the G40 faction, fled Zimbabwe in 2017 amid internal party conflicts. Fearing persecution under Mnangagwa’s administration, ex-cabinet ministers such as Saviour Kasukuwere, Walter Mzembi, Jonathan Moyo, and Patrick Zhuwawo sought refuge abroad.

Speaking during a sermon at his Chitungwiza basilica, Makandiwa advocated for their reintegration into Zimbabwe, describing them as politically inactive.

“I have great respect for Walter Mzembi. It is unfortunate that they are in exile. Mzembi is harmless. He is pure. Allowing them back into their country would be a blessing. No one holds power except the power they are given,” he said.

Following the ousting of former President Robert Mugabe, both Mzembi and Kasukuwere faced corruption charges in court, which they dismissed as politically motivated.

Makandiwa also claimed he had foreseen Mugabe’s removal and Mnangagwa’s rise to power during the late leader’s tenure.

Furthermore, he encouraged Zimbabweans who had left the country for better opportunities abroad to return, insisting that Zimbabwe remains a land of abundant blessings.

“Zimbabwe is full of blessings. Bring back your children who are in the diaspora. They are blessings that have left,” he stated.

Makandiwa has previously expressed political views, notably in 2023 when he hosted Mnangagwa at his church and publicly endorsed him.
