Nelson Chamisa Denies Backing Vice President Chiwenga Amid Geza Allegations

Nelson Chamisa, former  leader of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), has formally distanced himself from claims made by war veteran Blessed Geza that he supports Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.

In a recent public address, Geza stirred controversy by alleging that Chamisa, along with other political figures such as Job Sikhala, Douglas Mwonzora, and Morgan Komichi, had agreed on a political path forward that involved support for Chiwenga.

Geza claimed that these individuals were backing the Vice President, adding that a significant political development was imminent.

“We have engaged all political players like Chamisa, Sikhala, Mwonzora, Komichi and we agreed on a way forward. For your own information, all these people like General Chiwenga. So be warned, the signal is coming very soon,” Geza said.

Chamisa was quick to respond to these assertions. When a social media user asked whether he supported Chiwenga, Chamisa refuted the claims, emphasizing his openness to constructive dialogue but denying any recent discussions with Geza or other political figures.

“I want to clarify that my door is always open to speak with anyone who reaches out to me for constructive conversations and nation-building, but I have not been involved in recent dialogues with anyone.

I don’t want to be made the focal point of things that have nothing to do with me,” Chamisa wrote.

Chamisa’s response generated mixed reactions across social media platforms. Some commentators criticized his decision to address the claims, suggesting that staying silent might have been a more strategic approach.

Others, however, supported his statement, praising his efforts to clear up any confusion.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) commented: “Opportunity to publicly deny any involvement given ✅ Opportunity to publicly deny any involvement taken, and utilized ✅ Lest there be any doubts. Now there is clarity.”

In contrast, another user expressed frustration with Chamisa’s response, saying, “President, sometimes it’s better to remain silent and let things unfold without commenting.”

This latest exchange adds to the ongoing political drama in Zimbabwe as various factions continue to jockey for influence ahead of the country’s next general election.
