Newly promoted Golden Eagles were on Saturday thrashed 3-1 by Simba Bhora in their away opening game in the Northern Region Division One which was played at Wadzanai Stadium in Shamva .

This is despite the fact that the Harare Region Division Two champions unveiled the signing of five new players to bolster their squad ahead of the return of lower  league competition on Thursday last week.

Simba Bhora got their opener as early as 3 minutes of play through Tinashe Balakasi.

This was shortly before Ishmael Nyanhi made it double in the 17th minute after the newly signed former Highlanders and Dynamos goal minder Munyaradzi Diya had initially saved two shots which had been fired on target.

The match went on half time 2-0 before Nicholas Alifandika taped in a third goal in the 49th minute.

Henry Manatsa scored the consolation goal for “Gondo Harishaye” as Golden Eargles is affectionately known through a penalty kick after Simba Bhora goal minder brought down Mamusara in the 16 yard box.

Co-owned by prominent sportscasters Barry Manandi and Mike Madoda, Eagles confirmed the arrival of the new signings through their social media pages with some seasoned and familiar faces amongst the newly signed players.

NEW SIGNINGS for Season 2021/22. We’ve bolstered our squad for our maiden dance in Division 1, adding both steel and skill and plenty of leadership. Munyaradzi Diya, Dominic Mukandi, Chris Samakwere, Raymond Uchena and Lloyd Majarira,” read the club’s facebook post.

Semakwere who also turned out for fading African giants TP Mazembe of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) exhibited some deft touches for Eagles during their debut match with Simba Bhora.

Meanwhile, Raymond Uchena and Lloyd Majarira are the other two players that were roped in by the Joel Luphahla coached side.
