PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday pampered traditional leaders with top of the range vehicles.
The gesture comes as we head towards the 2023 general elections expected in July or August.
Mnangagwa handed the vehicles during the National Chiefs Annual Conference which was attended by more than 500 headmen in Bulawayo.
He urged the traditional leaders to vote for ZANU PF in the upcoming elections.
“We have 38 new chiefs who were recently appointed and we bought cars for them. We also have 291 chiefs and all of them will get cars.
“We are going to have elections around the end of July or August, we have hope in traditional leaders to defend the identity of our culture and land by voting for the revolutionary party,” Mnangagwa said.
This comes at a time when the government is being criticized of misplacing priorities focusing on winning elections only while neglecting citizens’ basic needs.
