DSTV to provide extensive coverage of Tokyo Olympics

by Bustop TV News

DStv viewers will have access to a wealth of sporting action with SuperSport’s extensive coverage of the postponed 2020 Olympics, now being hosted by the Japanese capital Tokyo from July 23 to August 8.

Formally known as the Games of the 32nd (XXXII) Olympiad and originally set for the same time last year, the 2020 games were postponed because of the Covid crisis and will now be held in safe conditions, with a small group of five athletes from Zimbabwe joining colleagues from all over the world for the most important of all international multi-sport events.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said SuperSport would be hosting eight dedicated channels, with SuperSport Football Plus becoming Olympic Channel 1, while SuperSport Premier League, La Liga, Football, Variety 1, Variety 2, Variety 3 and Variety 4 will become Olympic Channels 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 for the duration of the event.

“Olympic- themed content will also be available on Catch-Up, while an ongoing focus on athletes from Africa has already started with documentaries on Kenyan long-distance running star Eliud Kipchoge and Zambia’s Copper Queens, who defied the odds to qualify for the women’s football competition,” she said.

“Over the years SuperSport has gained a reputation for hosting the widest coverage of the Summer Olympics, with saturation coverage of all the principal events and excellent coverage of the minor ones, and this year’s coverage will cement that reputation with more widespread coverage.

The opening and closing ceremonies will also be broadcast live.
