Zimbabwe’s AmeriWorld Mahindra Under Fire for Failing to Pay Employees

Workers at AmeriWorld Mahindra Zimbabwe have endured five months without salaries, pushing many into severe financial distress.

AmeriWorld Mahindra, an automobile dealership based at 891 Willow Road, New Adbernie, Harare, has left its employees struggling to survive due to prolonged non-payment. The situation has forced some into homelessness, while others are unable to afford rent, school fees, or basic necessities.

During a recent visit, employees shared their hardships, with one worker revealing that his family had been evicted and was now living under a tent.

“I approached management for help, but nothing has been done,” he said.

Another affected worker’s wife tearfully recounted how her child missed final exam registration due to financial constraints, fearing the situation might push him into drug abuse.

When contacted, Mrs. Shailet Chikowore, who reportedly holds multiple roles at the company, declined to comment, directing inquiries to the owner.

Meanwhile, company owner Mr. Sanjay Babbar assured workers that a meeting would be held on Monday to address their concerns.

The National Union of Metal and Allied Industries in Zimbabwe (NUMAIZ) has condemned the company’s actions, labeling the failure to pay salaries a violation of workers’ rights.

NUMAIZ General Secretary Henry Tarumbira urged employees to join unions for protection, emphasizing that the union would stand by those affected.

Workers are now calling on authorities to step in and ensure they receive their overdue wages.
