President Emmerson Mnangagwa has given the green light for urban land to be allocated to war veterans, according to Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere.

Speaking during a press briefing in Harare alongside War Veterans League Secretary Cde Douglas Mahiya and Special Presidential Investment Advisor to the UAE Dr. Paul Tungwarara, Dr. Muswere explained that the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to empower and improve the welfare of war veterans who were instrumental in the country’s liberation struggle.

The allocated land will be distributed across various urban areas in Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces, offering war veterans the opportunity to build homes and pursue economic activities.

“This initiative, beginning with land in Jumbo, Mazowe district, will empower war veterans economically. Dr. Muswere stated that the allocated land can also serve as collateral.

CDE Mahiya expressed gratitude to President Mnangagwa for prioritising the needs of war veterans, highlighting that the land would serve purposes such as housing, schools, and clinics. He also mentioned the introduction of the Presidential War Veterans Fund, which will further support veterans.

Additionally, the government has launched the Presidential War Veterans’ Borehole Scheme, spearheaded by Dr. Tungwarara. This program will ensure that each war veteran has access to a borehole at their homestead.

Dr. Tungwarara emphasised that these benefits would be extended to all provinces to ensure inclusivity. “We aim to ensure every war veteran benefits from these initiatives,” he said.
