Two men from Mabvuku were brought before the court yesterday after allegedly beating a suspected thief to death.
The accused, Misheck Dunduru (24) and Takunda John (22), appeared before Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova but were not required to enter a plea. They were remanded in custody and informed that they must apply to the High Court for bail, as they are facing a third-schedule offense.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on February 13 along Rusitu Street in Mabvuku. Dunduru reportedly confronted the victim, Nelson Govhati, accusing him of stealing from his brother.
In an attempt to recover the allegedly stolen property, Dunduru assaulted Govhati with a wooden stick, striking him multiple times while demanding to know where the items were.
John, who had previously been involved in an altercation with the victim, allegedly joined the attack, using stones and a hockey stick to beat him.
Govhati was later taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Rufaro Chonzi represented the State in the case.
