Two bogus cops who committed a spate of robberies in Bindura and surrounding areas will serve an effective 40-year jail term each after they were convicted of armed robbery.
The jury found John Jaji, 40, and Iyeni Njanji, 26, guilty of five counts of armed robbery.
The duo would pose as police officers to gain entry into premises where they stole cash, electronic gadgets, and other valuables.

In passing the sentence, the magistrate noted that the duo deserved to be locked up as they were a threat to society, adding that a lengthy custodial sentence would send a clear message to would-be offenders.
In one incident, they assaulted a family, tied them up, and ransacked their home, making off with US$1712 and several other valuables.
Their crimes included violence, intimidation, and unlawful possession of firearms.
