A woman Martha Kanyera has revealed that her marriage fell apart due to her ex-husband’s alleged relationships with their household maids.
Martha told the Harare Civil Court that her former husband, Daniel Kanyera, repeatedly engaged in affairs with their domestic workers.
Whenever she confronted him about it, she claimed he responded with violence. Seeking protection, she was granted a court order by Magistrate Meenal Naratom.
“My ex-husband has no shame,” Martha stated. “He would sleep with our maids in our own home, which ultimately led to our divorce.
Now, people mock me because of his actions, and I struggle to find anyone willing to work for me.”
She recounted an incident from last year when her daughter got into an altercation with one of their maids after Daniel showered her with gifts and airtime while failing to provide school fees for his own child.

Martha further alleged that Daniel recently visited her home, requesting the phone number of her current maid, which resulted in the maid quitting her job.
“All I want is for him to stay away from my maids,” she pleaded. “If he wants to check on the children, he should do so through me, not through them.
I am tired of the humiliation and just want my privacy.”
In response, Daniel denied the accusations but admitted to asking for the maid’s contact information.
“I only wanted her number to check on my children and to have her accompany them when they visit me,” he explained.
“My youngest child is my favourite, and I love him dearly. I want to see him every day.
If this court order is granted, it will stop me from visiting my children, yet they are the reason I work so hard.”
The court ultimately ruled in Martha’s favour, granting her the protection she sought.
