Crackdown on Drug Smuggling: Over 40 Buses and Trucks Seized

by Bustop TV News

Law enforcement authorities have seized more than 40 buses and trucks suspected of being involved in the smuggling of illicit drugs and substances in an ongoing operation targeting drug syndicates.

During the operation, one bus was found transporting 71 kilograms of dagga, while several other vehicles were carrying illegal alcoholic beverages imported from neighboring countries.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, stated that the drivers and conductors of the impounded vehicles could not identify the individuals behind the contraband.

“Nearly 50 buses and trucks involved in the transportation of dagga, illicit alcohol, and other banned substances have been taken into custody,” said Comm Nyathi. “Our operation against drug and substance abuse is still ongoing, and we are committed to holding all culprits accountable.”

He issued a strong warning to transport operators, drivers, and conductors, urging them to refrain from engaging in illegal trade.

“Anyone found trafficking illicit substances will be arrested and prosecuted,” he cautioned.

Comm Nyathi also expressed concern over the rising cases of rape and murder, linking them to the influence of illegal drugs.

He further noted that unlicensed businesses are producing high-alcohol-content beverages marketed as medicinal or performance-enhancing, which has contributed to an increase in violent crimes.

“We urge all business owners to comply with government regulations and acquire proper licensing,” he stated.
