Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has pledged a US$100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of 20 suspected robbers who targeted his in-laws’ farm in Marondera.
The robbery took place in the early hours of Tuesday, March 18, when a gang stormed Alpha and Omega Farm around 1 AM.
The suspects overpowered security guards and some family members before making off with US$74,100 in cash, a pistol, three mobile phones, and other valuables.
Reports suggest that part of the stolen money may have been lobola (bride price) paid by Chivayo during a high-profile ceremony, which had been widely shared on social media.
Some speculate that this publicity may have drawn the criminals’ attention.
Following the incident, Chivayo took to social media, strongly condemning the attack and urging the public to assist law enforcement by providing any leads that could result in the suspects’ capture. He emphasized that the reward would be given “no questions asked” to anyone with credible information leading to their arrest.
To aid the investigation, Chivayo has shared contact details for relevant police officers and departments, encouraging anyone with information to reach out.
Authorities are now intensifying efforts to track down the suspects and recover the stolen items.
