The Ministry of Health and Childcare has released its latest Weekly Disease Report, highlighting ongoing health concerns affecting communities nationwide.
Influenza/Common Cold
This week, 3,912 suspected cases of influenza or the common cold were recorded, with no reported deaths. The highest case numbers were seen in Manicaland (1,439 cases) and Mashonaland East (967 cases). So far, the cumulative total stands at 13,471 cases, with no fatalities reported.
Measles
Health authorities identified seven suspected cases of measles, with no deaths recorded. These cases were reported in Harare (3 cases), Mashonaland Central (2 cases), Mashonaland East (1 case), and Mashonaland West (1 case). The cumulative number of suspected cases now stands at 34, with no reported fatalities.
Common Diarrhoea
A total of 8,464 cases of common diarrhoea were reported, with no fatalities. Among these, 3,358 cases involved children under the age of five. Mashonaland Central (1,178 cases) and Mashonaland East (1,157 cases) recorded the highest numbers. The overall total now stands at 35,265 cases, with 17 deaths.
Malaria
There were 2,009 new malaria cases this week, with six fatalities. Manicaland recorded the highest number of infections (824 cases), followed by Mashonaland West (527 cases). The deaths occurred in Mutare (2), while Chimanimani, Buhera, Rushinga, and Makonde each reported one fatality. The cumulative total for the year has reached 5,710 cases, with 17 deaths, maintaining a case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.3%.
Cholera
This week saw 24 suspected cholera cases and one suspected death. Of these, 23 cases were reported in Mazowe District. However, no confirmed cholera cases or deaths have been recorded. The cumulative total stands at 107 suspected cases, with one suspected fatality.
Dysentery
A total of 545 dysentery cases were recorded, with no deaths reported. Mashonaland Central (114 cases) and Mashonaland West (97 cases) had the highest numbers. So far, there have been 2,416 cases, with one death.
Typhoid
No new suspected cases or deaths from typhoid were recorded, leaving the cumulative total at two suspected cases, with no fatalities.
Health officials continue to monitor these outbreaks and urge the public to maintain proper hygiene and seek medical attention if symptoms appear.
