Carabao Cup final

Liverpool secured their spot in the Carabao Cup final, where they will face Newcastle at Wembley on 16 March, with a dominant victory over Tottenham at Anfield.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg of the semi-final, Liverpool started strong and levelled the aggregate score in the 34th minute when Mohamed Salah’s cross was expertly converted by Cody Gakpo.

Early in the second half, Salah doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Darwin Núñez was fouled by goalkeeper Antonín Kinský, completing the turnaround for the 10-time champions.

Dominik Szoboszlai dashed any lingering Tottenham hopes with a composed finish from Conor Bradley’s cross, while Virgil van Dijk’s commanding header from a corner sealed an emphatic victory for the home side.

What stood out most was the sense of inevitability in Liverpool’s dominance. For Tottenham, however, the evening was one of disappointment. With a slim advantage in the first leg and the chance to end their 17-year trophy drought, Spurs failed to offer much resistance, leaving the competition with a lacklustre performance.

While Liverpool’s impressive form may spark conversations about a potential quadruple, Tottenham’s lack of fight in such a critical match seems to tell the bigger story of the night.
