PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has Tuesday received the second consignment of the Chinese Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine.

The batch consisting of 344 000 vaccination doses arrived at Robert Mugabe International Airport, Harare.

The Chinese invented Sinopharm dose is the only one that has been delivered for use in the country so far.

200 000 of the Sinopharm doses are a donation from China while government has purchased 144 000.

Initially China donated 200 000 Sinopharm vaccination doses and government began a national vaccination programme which is taking place in phases.

The first phase comprises of frontline workers.

To date a total of  37 660 frontline workers have been vaccinated.

Government is aiming at inoculating 60% of the total population in order to achieve herd immunity against the corona virus. This is about 10 million citizens.

Mnangagwa will get his vaccination shot from the newly arrived batch.
His Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga was the first citizen to receive his vaccination shot last month.
