Zim records highest number of daily Covid-19 infections.

Zimbabwe yesterday recorded the highest number of Covid-19 confirmed cases in a day after 273 cases tested positive.

Of the 273 new cases 260 are local transmissions.

“Two hundred and seventy three cases tesred positive for Covid -19 yesterday. These include returnees from South Africa (12), Mozambique (1) and 260 local cases who are isolated.

Due to a backlog of sample processing at NTBRL, Bulawayo province has reported 23- cases today which were collected over the last seven days but were not processed. These cases will be distributed in the Epi -curve according to dates the samples were collected,” the Health Ministry said.

30 recoveries were reported yesterday in Mash East Province (25) and Manicaland (5) and three deaths.

“Today we regret to report three (3) deaths; two at community level and (1) at facility level. These deaths occurred in Bulawayo Province. The community deaths were detected during routine post mortem as part of our Covid -19 surveillance. The province now has a total of 10 deaths.”

Yesterday, 1156 RDT screening tests and 492 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 97 508 (58 392 RDT and 39 116PCR).

Since the onset of the COVID -19 outbreak on 20March, the total number of confirmed cases in the country is 1 362, recovered 425, active cases 914 and 23 deaths.
