ZIMBABWEAN national, Nyasha Mugwagwa who went missing over a fortnight ago when Islamic State-linked insurgents attacked Palma town in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province has been reported dead.

Mugwagwa (38) worked as a catering manager for Remote Site Solutions Group, a company contracted in the Mozambican northern province.

His family raised alarm after they had last been in contact with him on the 24th of March before the insurgents terrorist attack.

He is survived by his wife and infant daughter.

While details surrounding his unfortunate death are still sketchy, his family said recovering his remains may take a long time.

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing on of Nyasha Mugwagwa. This occurred on 28th March of 2021, in Palma, Mozambique, during an attack on the town by insurgents.

“Nyasha (38) was working in Palma at the the time and is survived by his wife and their 1-year-old daughter. We have lost a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend.

“We are currently working on recovering Nyasha’s body and unfortunately this might be a lengthy process. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course,” reads the family’s announcement.

Since 2017 insurgents have been active in Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations has also confirmed Mugwagwa’s death and advised Zimbabweans with their beloved ones missing to contact the ministry’s consular department.
