Zim Covid -19 death toll reaches 13

The country now has recorded 13 Covid-19 deaths after a female died yesterday.

This is the first Covid-19 death that Matabeleland North has recorded.

In it’s update the Ministry of Health and Child Care said 16 more people tested positive for corona virus yesterday.

“Yesterday we regret to report a community death of a 63 year old female from Matabeleland North Province, this was detected during a routine post mortem and awaiting post mortem results to determine the cause of death.

“Sixteen cases tested positive for Covid -19 yesterday. These include returnees from South Africa (7), Botswana (1) and 8 local cases who are isolated,” the Health Ministry said.

The Ministry added that 14 recoveries from Bulawayo were reported yesterday.

Yesterday 393RDT screening tests and 659 PCR diagnostic tests were done. The cumulative number of tests done to date is 87 264 (51 259 and 36 005 PCR). To date the total number of confirmed cases is 942, recovered 320, active cases 609 and 13 deaths since the onset of the outbreak on 20March 2020.

The Ministry advises that a cloth mask should be three layered for optimal protection and to always check the layers when buying or producing cloth face mask.

Globally 12 286 264 confirmed cases and 555 642 deaths have been recorded.
