Zanu-pf national youth league recently donated to ailing Makonde Christian Hospital, the only referral health institution in Mhangura constituency, Mashonaland West.

Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the hospital, the party’s national youth league secretary for security and central committee member, Silas Chimbiro said the sourced donations were aimed at supporting every member of the society despite their political affiliations.

Chimbiro said the donations will be handed over to rural health institutions in all the seven administration districts in the province.

“As it is now our duty to safeguard the gains of the liberation struggle, we stand guided by our President who is a unifier hence the donation that we brought here is going to be enjoyed by everyone despite political affiliations.

“The country has to know that as Zanu-pf, we preach about unity, love, sharing and togetherness,” he said.

Secretary for Indigenisation, Mike Chimombe said he was touched by the challenges that are being faced by the institution.

“The institution which has a capacity of servicing about 70 000 people referred from the nine clinics in the constituency, is currently facing food shortages,” he said.

“We saw it fit as the youth league to source donations to help the hospital considering how it is useful to the constituency and the work that it holds, having inadequate necessities will be a great cause of concern on how the public will be served.”

The hospital’s board chairman, James Masango who was standing in for Mhangura MP, Precious Masango said the gesture by the youths must serve as an eye opener to the locals.

He added that the donation will go a long way in providing food and nutrition to patients and improve moral support to 75 frontline staffers at the institution.

The hospital is also operating without an ambulance and Masango, pleaded with well-wishers to provide one for the institution.

Medical superintendent, Dr Munyaradzi Masiyiwa who received the donation on behalf of the hospital, appreciated the youth league and urged them to continue providing assistance to those in need around the country.

The youth league donated party’s branded alcohol based hand sanitisers with President Mnangagwa’s image and party logo, rice, sugar, cooking oil, salt, beans and soya chunks and hand washing gadget to the hospital before donating to Makonde Rural District Council offices.
