ZANU PF squabbles worsen as politburo member is found in possession of #31July fliers

Factional fights within the ruling ZANU PF have largely contributed to the call for anti-government demonstrations, analysts have warned.

This comes after ZANU PF senior politburo member, Cleveria Chizema was suspended from the party after being found in possession of fliers for the #31July protests.

Sources have said the placards were supporting Vice President Constantino Chiwenga take over as president after Mnangagwa’s ouster.

Chizema’s suspension has been widely interpreted as a sign of rising tensions within the ruling party.

Exiled former ZANU PF politburo member and political scientist, Jonathan Moyo writing on his Twitter account said there is disunity in the ruling Zanu PF party.

“Mnangagwa calls on CIO boss, Isaac Moyo, to politburo to accuse Chiwenga for plotting to oust him” @zimlive .ZanuPF big wigs now living in fear of each other, as politburo suspends Cleveria Chizema & warns Tendai Savanhu for mobilizing for #31July2020!”

Another political scientist, Pedzisai Ruhanya blamed Zanu PF internal fights for the country’s political problems.

“Most authoritarian regimes of a liberation nature usually collapse when the ideological glue that binds them is eroded by extractive, patronage and predatory politics!”

Political analyst, Frank Chauke said there is clear evidence that Zanu PF leaders are plotting against each other as evidenced by reports that the CIO boss was called to the politiburo.

Chauke said, “insurrection and a scheming at each other by Zanu PF leaders is largely behind the political mayhem in the country. The demonstrations have a Zanu PF hand. There is no doubt about that.”

Yesterday fellow online publication ZimLive.com reported that President Mnangagwa yesterday confronted internal Zanu PF opponents with the help of Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) boss Isaac Moyo who presented a report on the alleged internal rebellion against the embattled 77-year-old leader.

The CIO boss Isaac Moyo is said to have turned up with posters allegedly printed ahead of planned anti-government protests on Friday.

Moyo claimed that the plot was being spearheaded by Politburo member Claveria Chizema (secretary for health, child care and the elderly) and former Mbare MP and businessman Tendai Savanhu.
