Zimbabwe’s Chevrons suffered a major blow as captain Sean Williams is set to miss the first Test match against Pakistan due to soft muscle tissue injury.

According to Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC), Williams failed to fully recover from a soft tissue injury to his left hand in time for the game that gets underway at Harare Sports Club this today Thursday. The injury, which had forced him to sit out the second T20I last Friday, flared up during the third game on Sunday.

Brendan Taylor will stand in as Zimbabwe’s captain for the first Test whilst Williams will be on the sidelines. Williams was in blistering form when Zimbabwe drew with Afghanistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in March when he scored two centuries and was named Man of the series.

Williams’ absence also creates a probable spot for the inform Roy Kaia who looks set to come into the match.

There could be a starting place also for Luke Jongwe who impressed in the T20I series.

The Test match starts this Thursday, April 29 to May 3.

Zimbabwe (probable): 1 Prince Masvaure, 2 Kevin Kasuza, 3 Roy Kaia, 4 Tarisai Musakanda, 5 Brendan Taylor (capt), 6 Regis Chakabva (wk), 7 Luke Jongwe, 8 Wellington Masakadza, 9 Donald Tiripano, 10 Blessing Muzarabani, 11 Victor Nyauchi.

For Pakistan, Yasir Shah’s absence might allow Zahid Mehmood a Test debut. Pakistan (probable): 1 Imran Butt, 2 Abid Ali, 3 Azhar Ali, 4 Babar Azam (capt), 5 Fawad Alam, 6 Mohammad Rizwan (wk), 7 Faheem Ashraf, 8 Hasan Ali, 9 Zahid Mehmood, 10 Nauman Ali, 11 Shaheen Shah Afridi
