Local women’s empowerment group, Women for Economic and Social Empowerment (WESE) has launched another section in Rusape.

The event was held at Chikuse business center, Tandi Village in Makoni District which saw
a number of women from different walks of life converging to breathe life to a platform meant
to amplify their socio-economic fight.

WESE which focuses on bridging the economic gap in an economic environment which is largely
patriarchal and polarized vowed not only to speak but take a leading role in women emancipation.

The launch was graced by women from all socio-economic backgrounds, the Chiundu local
leadership and citizens, together with headman Never Mukanda.

WESE Director, Kundai Sabrina Chambara spoke to the deep issues affecting women not just in Chiundu but in Zimbabwe which include lack of equal opportunities due to gender or social lines, lack of access to economic resources and effective social structure that places women through
default and nature the periphery of society.

She also called on women to disregard gender stereotypes against women and urged them to use local resources for self sustaining programs.

“As women we must take action by starting to reject traditional stereotypes that regard us as the lesser gender. We must instead be focused on problem solving solutions through community sustaining projects by using local resources as a starting point of escaping hunger and poverty,” she said.

WESE members in attendance expressed desire to remove the shackles of economic and social exploitation adding that WESE is the right platform for them to be able to achieve that desire.

Headman Never Mukanda pledged to assist in identifying land that can be used by women in his area for community sustaining projects.

WESE is a civil society organization which empowers women through sustainable entrepreneurship projects.

Its major objective is to grow the ability of women to be independent and fully participate in their social and economic emancipation.
